Placing ads on your blog was the only way to monetize your website when the internet first arrived.

Today, millions of blogs still use this method and some blogs even make $5,000 a month with Google Adsense alone.

When you run advertisements on your blog, you gain a commission based on the CPC (cost per click) per ad. When a visitor clicks on your link, you will receive a payment. These payments range, on average, from $0.05 – $15 per click.

There are other payment factors that apply, like your CTR – or click through rate, and the amount of visitors that you have on your blog.

Selling eBooks won’t get you incredibly rich in most cases, but why not earn a pretty penny on something you are going to write about on your blog anyways?

This is a little know way to make money utilizing your blog.

No matter your niche, you can create all types of documents and charge anywhere from $0.99 per download to $50 or more.

A couple of ideas for some digital downloads are:

  • Tutorials
  • Recipes/Meal Plans
  • Patterns
  • Reports/Budgeting Templates
  • Audio downloads (ringtones, sound effects, voice overs)
  • Short films

Get creative and make a digital download that your audience needs and will get amazing value from. Utilize programs like Microsoft Office or Google Docs to create your downloadable documents.

A great way to get started with this is to offer one for free as a lead magnet to provide your readers with a sample of your work.

This is a good way of hooking your readers into your products.

Email marketing should be used even if you don’t want to monetize your blog. Why?

Make sure your blog is designed how you want it, your message is clear and you have a few articles up on your site. Once this is done, you are ready to begin monetizing.

  • Choose your method of monetizing.

If your goal is to start seeing your blog monetized quickly and with minimal effort, signing up for an affiliate program in your micro-niche is going to be the fastest way to get started. In most cases, it takes no time to get your affiliate links! (Remember to checkout Clickbank’s trillions of affiliate programs)

Google Adsense is the second fastest way, though verifying your account can take up to 2 weeks. So get started now if you plan to go this route!

Make sure that you pick a method that will be easy for you to monetize within your micro-niche, and one that will be helpful to your audience.

  • Implement your method.

Depending on the path that you choose, this step will be carried out differently.

If you are affiliate marketing, you want to learn all about your affiliate products first. It’s imperative that you not only pick ethical products that will help your audience, but it’s also important that you know all about them.

If digital downloads is going to be your way, an almost fail proof way of getting your readers to download your products is to provide a free sample as a lead magnet.

Try out different ways of implementing your strategies. No matter your monetizing method, there are hundreds of different ways for you to test them out.

If you are doing affiliate marketing, try out different placements of your links. If you are doing Google Adsense, test different areas on your blog to place your ads (Google Adsense makes this easy for you to do).

With digital downloads, you can get feedback from your readers on what was helpful for them and what wasn’t. Visit forums to get opinions on your eBooks and other products and use that data to improve your content. (This will also pull more readers into your blog).

The goal of this phase is to see what is working and what isn’t. Utilize the data you receive from your strategies to craft new ones.

Use every blog post as a new opportunity to monetize.

Most strategies that you can use will come with a tracking system already installed (this is especially true for affiliate networks). This makes tracking easy for you.

The testing phase of your strategies may not go exactly as you planned, but you will have time to modify it later.

Once you have tested out some strategies, use your feedback to craft out even better ones.

Only a few people clicked on the links in your blogs? Try adding photos to your blog post and embed your affiliate links there.
